Umberto Manzo
Since the 1980s, the body and memory are recurring themes and essential elements of Umberto Manzo's poetics.
The artist overlaps pieces of paper and canvas in his works, gathering together images and signs made with multiple techniques.
Over time, he has included various forms and materials in his “memory archives”. He began by depicting his own body on emulsified canvases and papers, gradually distilling the forms, making them increasingly abstract or drawing inspiration from classical statuary. In his most recent works, he experiments with new linguistic and chromatic solutions, including the use of gold leaf.
The exhibition features large-scale canvases and new studies on female statuary.
