Stefano Cerio

Aquila

June 9 — September 20, 2022

works

A selection of large photographs and the video that is a fundamental part of the project in which the artist installed several whimsical, inflatable structures in various sites in the area of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo region, including Piana di Campo Felice, Campo Imperatore and Pescasseroli will be shown.

Brightly colored sliding boards, fairy-tale cottages, little churches, and soccer fields are situated in deserted spaces, in the middle of a frozen plain, at the foot of a verdant hill, or on barren terrain. In photographing these structures as they slowly come to life far removed from their usual context, Cerio aims to produce a sense of estrangement and induce reflection on feelings of abandonment and the strong desire for rebirth in the very places which were so sorely challenged by the seismic events that took place between 2009 and 2012.
